Hermione and Ron need marriage counseling. I am devastated by the news that J. K. Rowling believes Hermione should have ended up with Harry. First, it undermines the relationship she did create between Harry and Hermione—a loving friendship of platonic love. Why must every main guy fall romantically in love for the main girl? It also denies the compatibility of Ron and Hermione who are two opposites that compliment each other. Throughout the series, Hermione loosens up, and Ron matures. And I believe that development wouldn't have happened if the two were not motivated by the attraction they felt for one another. Love is a huge part of the series, but love isn’t about what makes sense. It’s about learning selflessness, which Ron (and Hermione) learned throughout Deathly Hallows. Then JKR says, “Screw that, I’m jumping ship.”
